Will Your Password Let the Bad Guys In?

Follow a few simple rules to create a strong password.

Good passwords are:

  • Not based on dictionary words or names, such as days of the week, seasons, or colors. A common technique used by hackers to guess your password is using words from the dictionary called a Dictionary Attack.
  • Never made up of 123456, abc123 or um123.
  • Long, at least 7 characters, but longer is better if the system supports it.
  • A mix of all supported character types: upper case letters (A-Z), lower case letters (a-z), numbers (0-9), and special characters (~!@#$%^&*()_+`-={}|[]\:”;’<>?,./).
  • Not used for any of your other accounts such as Gmail, Facebook, Yahoo!, Amazon.com, etc.
